The White House announced late yesterday that Carlton Reeves, of the Jackson, Mississippi law firm of Pigott, Reeves & Johnson, has been nominated to fill a vacancy on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi. Reeves is a well respected seasoned lawyer and former Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi.
Carlton is a highly regarded lawyer with a wealth of experience. President Obama has made a wise choice in selecting him for appointment as a United States District Judge. I join many of my colleagues in congratulating Carlton on his nomination. I hope the United States Senate will promptly confirm him so that he can join the ranks of Mississippi’s distinguished jurists.
If confirmed, Reeves will become the second African American U.S. District Judge in Mississippi. Chief U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate currently is the only African American serving on the federal bench in the Southern District of Mississippi. See related post at NMissCommentor.com
